Graphic Novels for Beginning and Reluctant Readers

Graphic novels are having a moment.  This is no surprise to teachers and librarians, who have long recognized not only the genre's popularity, but its value to readers, especially beginning and reluctant readers.   A graphic novel (New Kid by Jerry Craft) even won the 2020 Newbery Medal!

Last year The Washington Post published an article by a public librarian who weighed in on whether or not graphic novels are "real books" (spoiler alert: they are!).

If you're still not convinced, check out this infographic from Capstone.

Now let's move on to some graphic novel recommendations for your kids' summer reading!  Brightly has some funny picks.  School Library Journal shares their selections for different age groups.  And next time you're in the library, pick up our brochure on the latest graphic novels for early readers (conveniently found in the graphic novel section!).
